2012 Belmont Stakes Betting Odds Favor I’ll Have Another

I’ll Have Another came from behind once again to capture the Preakness Stakes this weekend, but he won’t be sneaking up on anyone at Belmont. In the third leg of the Triple Crown, the 3-year old colt is a 3-to-1 favorite to win Belmont on June 9 and become the first horse since 1978 to win horse racing’s most elusive prize.

Since Affirmed won it 34 years ago, 11 Triple Crown hopefuls have lost at Belmont, including Big Brown in 2008. Continue reading

Derby Winner I’ll Have Another Favored to Win 2012 Preakness Stakes

The 137th annual Preakness Stakes is coming fast and there’s not much time left to get your bets in on I’ll Have Another to win the second leg of the Triple Crown.

The 3-year old colt will try to end the 34-year Triple Crown drought today, where he has 5/2 odds to win, according to Bovada’s Preakness Stakes Futures Odds. Continue reading

Betting Odds To Win 2012 Preakness Stakes

Despite winning the Kentucky Derby, I’ll Have Another is a huge longshot to win the second length of the Triple Crown this weekend when he races the Preakness Stakes. His trainers flew him in early to give him a head start, and put him in a quieter stable to keep him calm and out of the limelight.

He got even better news when it was announced Dullahan and Trinniberg were being taken out of the race. Dullahan finished third in the Derby, losing by just under two lengths and will race at Belmont and skip this one. Trinniberg was only going to race if Bodemeister wasn’t. Continue reading

2012 Preakness Stakes Betting Lines

If it wasn’t already enough of a longshot to win the Triple Crown, the horse who won the first leg seems to have made it a complete improbability.

No slight against I’ll Have Another. What a great race he had to beat one of the strongest fields this decade. But colts like Bodemeister and Union Rags already seemed destined for greatness this year with strong careers as 3-year olds, and they would have made it interesting to see if we had our first Triple Crown since 1978. 2012 Horse Racing Triple Crown Betting Odds

We haven’t even run the first leg yet, but why not get into the Triple Crown talk today, shall we? Although it hasn’t been done since Affirmed in 1978, oddsmakers are already posting odds for a Triple Crown to happen this year.

Bodemeister and Union Rags are the obvious choices, gaining all the publicity heading up to the race. They seem to be the only ones with realistic shots. Other horses lack the combination of speed and endurance they will need to sweep the biggest races of the year. Continue reading

2012 Kentucky Derby Prop Betting Doesn’t Expect Wire-To-Wire Winner

There are a handful of colts that all have realistic shots at winning today’s Kentucky Derby, so much so that oddsmakers have had a hard time decifering a front runner. They settled on Bodemeister’s speed and good position in making him the favorite, but he’ll have to wade through a brutal field to capture the championship.

And the stiff competition won’t just come from other favorites like Union Rags and Gemologist. Colts like Trinniberg could shape the race, too. He was victorious his last two races with jockey Willie Martinez on-board, winning by a combined nine lengths at Swale at Gulfstream Park and Bay Shore at Aqueduct. His problem has been endurance, and hasn’t fared well in long tracks like Churchhill Downs. Continue reading

2012 Kentucky Derby Betting Lines Predict Tight Finish

Bodemeister’s impressive performance at the Arkansas Derby is a big reason why he’s the front runner to win the Kentucky Derby this afternoon, but oddsmakers aren’t expecting such a blowout at Churchhill Downs.

With so many good horses in the field, it’s hard to believe any horse will be dominant. Continue reading

Betting Lines Favor Grace Hall To Win 2012 Kentucky Oaks

Just one day remains until the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, but Churchhill Downs is already buzzing.

Today a field of 14 will break the gates for the Kentucky Oaks with Grace Hall as the frontrunner to win, according to Bovada’s Kentucky Oaks Futures at 5/2.

Alibi and On Fire Baby aren’t far behind on Bovada, sharing 4/1 odds. Continue reading

Bodemeister Officially Favored To Win 2012 Kentucky Derby

Trainer Bob Baffert has been trying to take it easy ever since suffering a heart attack in Dubai last month. His horse, Bodemeister, has done his part so far with dominating performances in his prep races. The duo got another breath of fresh air on Wednesday as they avoided the dreaded no. 1 post position for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby.

He will start out of the sixth position, where six winners have come from, which is good enough to make him the favorite for the race. Continue reading

2012 Kentucky Derby Futures Betting Odds Underdogs

We’ve spent a long time talking about the favorites to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby and it’s all starting to turn into drivel. Union Rags and Bodemeister are clearly the frontrunners to capture the crown on Saturday, and the actual odds will only depend on the positions drawn on Wednesday.

But what about the dark horses? Trinniberg’s training team feels “100 percent” that their colt will win the race because of his world-class speed that could force other horses to chase and exhaust early on. But there are a couple others that could make some noise on Saturday if they get a really good draw. And we’re not talking about Gemologist. Continue reading
