Betting Odds To Win 2012 Preakness Stakes

Despite winning the Kentucky Derby, I’ll Have Another is a huge longshot to win the second length of the Triple Crown this weekend when he races the Preakness Stakes. His trainers flew him in early to give him a head start, and put him in a quieter stable to keep him calm and out of the limelight.

He got even better news when it was announced Dullahan and Trinniberg were being taken out of the race. Dullahan finished third in the Derby, losing by just under two lengths and will race at Belmont and skip this one. Trinniberg was only going to race if Bodemeister wasn’t.

Odds haven’t been released yet, but it’s hard to believe I’ll Have Another will be a favorite in 2012 Preakness Stakes Betting Lines.

Some sportsbooks have him listed at 9/1 to win the Triple Crown, likely because many of his main competitors won’t be there this weekend.

His biggest threat, Bodemeister is in the field and will likely be the favorite again after being the front runner at Churchhill Downs.

He wasn’t able to hold on to his early lead in that race, but still carries the kind of elite speed that can win at the Preakness. He seems to be the biggest benefactor to Trinniberg sitting out, as well as Hansen. Trainer Bob Baffert’s prior history bodes well, too. His colt Looking At Lucky was the favorite to win in 2006, but finished sixth. Many expected him to take the next race off, but Baffert rode him anyways, with a new jockey. Looking At Lucky won Preakness and few are questioning his decision now.

Went the Day Well is another colt people are looking at and will get good odds to win here. Despite running in 17th most of the Derby, he turned on the jets late and finished fourth.
