I’ll Have Another Triple Crown Betting Odds

New York racing officials seem to be a lot more pro-active about doping than Major League Baseball ever was. Or any sport for that matter. With I’ll Have Another trainer Doug O’Niell recently sentenced for allowing his horse to have too much carbon dioxide, the state is already taking steps to prevent anything from happening again.

O’Neill will serve a 45-day suspension from racing after Belmont, where his 3-year old is a 3/2 favorite on Bovada’s Belmont Betting Lines. But in the days leading up to the June 9 race, he won’t be able to administer medication “without a board investigator present”, according to the New York Times.

He also isn’t allowed his horse to be treated “by mouth or in feed without conferring with a board investigator, who will first log the treatment and discuss the reason(s) for treatment.”

The trainer must also give over his records by 10 a.m. every day after he treats his horses.

O’Neill told ESPN he didn’t feel picked on because of the new rule restrictions, reminding reporters horse racing has “a lot of black eyes all over the country, especially in New York.”

Next Wednesday, four days before the race, all horses will have to be placed in a 24-hour surveillance Stakes barn where they will be blood tested and visitors will be limited. Every bit of equipment going in will be inspected and vets must receive written notice before dosing any of the horses with medication.

If I’ll Have Another wins the Triple Crown this weekend, no one will be able to question the legitimacy. Bovada’s Triple Crown Odds are giving him a +150 chance at become the first horse in 34 years to do it.

Dullahan is listed with the second-best odds to win Belmont after a top-5 finish at the Kentucky Derby. Union Rags, who was a front runner to win the Derby is at 9/2 and Paynter is at 9/1.

Paynter has the best odds of any “fresh” horse, which hasn’t raced in either of the first two Crown legs. He is worn, though, winning impressively in a Preakness undercard race.
