There are a handful of colts that all have realistic shots at winning today’s Kentucky Derby, so much so that oddsmakers have had a hard time decifering a front runner. They settled on Bodemeister’s speed and good position in making him the favorite, but he’ll have to wade through a brutal field to capture the championship.
And the stiff competition won’t just come from other favorites like Union Rags and Gemologist. Colts like Trinniberg could shape the race, too. He was victorious his last two races with jockey Willie Martinez on-board, winning by a combined nine lengths at Swale at Gulfstream Park and Bay Shore at Aqueduct.
